By 2025, China's automobile production and sales will double exceed 34 million units, setting a new historical high. It is expected to continue high-quality development in 2026
On January 14th, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers released the latest data showing that in 2025, the production and sales of automobiles will be 34.531 million and 34.4 million respectively, an increase of 10.4% and 9.4% year-on-year, reaching a new historical high and ranking first in the world for 17 consecutive years. The release of new kinetic energy is accelerating, with the production and sales of new energy vehicles reaching 16.626 million and 16.49 million respectively, an increase of 29% and 28.2% year-on-year, ranking first in the world for 11 consecutive years.
Chen Shihua, Deputy Secretary General of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, introduced that during the 14th Five Year Plan period, China's automobile industry has made breakthroughs in various aspects, with production and sales maintaining a scale of over 30 million vehicles for three consecutive years, operating income exceeding 10 trillion yuan, exports ranking first in the world, and the acceleration of the integration of electrification, intelligence, and networking, forming a leading advantage in the industry.
In 2025, China's "two new" policies will be strengthened and expanded, and new products will be launched intensively by enterprises. The terminal demand in the automotive market will continue to be released, and the production and sales of automobiles will achieve unexpected growth by 2025. The passenger car market is steadily growing, with annual production and sales exceeding 30 million vehicles; The sales share of Chinese brand passenger cars reached 69.5%, an increase of 4.3 percentage points compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the commercial vehicle market is recovering and improving, with production and sales returning to over 4 million vehicles. Foreign trade has shown strong resilience, with over 7 million vehicles exported throughout the year, including 2.615 million new energy vehicles.
Chen Shihua said that in 2026, the "two new" policies will be smoothly and orderly connected. The "Notice on Implementing Green Consumption Promotion Action" jointly issued by 9 departments will accelerate the green transformation of development mode and consumption mode, which will stabilize market expectations and boost automobile consumption.
At the same time as releasing data for 2025, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers predicts that the total sales of domestically produced cars in 2026 will reach 34.75 million units, a slight increase of 1% year-on-year. The Chinese automobile industry will continue to promote high-quality development, and the overall market will maintain stable operation.
