April 2026 Auto Market Sees Multiple Booms: Intensive New Vehicle Launches, Policy-Backed Consumption, and Beijing Auto Show on the Horizon
As of April 7, 2026, China's automotive industry has entered a critical stage featuring new model launches, policy implementation, and exhibition preparation. New energy and intelligent vehicles continue to lead the market, as automakers advance technological iteration and overseas layout in parallel. Automotive consumption and industrial upgrading are accelerating simultaneously, further deepening the electrification transformation of the global automotive industry.
The new vehicle market has entered an intensive launch window, with efforts exerted on both high-end flagship models and affordable bestsellers. BYD Datang, the flagship full-size SUV under BYD's Dynasty series, has opened pre-sales and is set to officially launch in May. Equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery and the 5th-generation DM hybrid technology, the pure electric version delivers a maximum CLTC cruising range of 950km, with megawatt-level ultra-fast charging replenishing 400km of range in 5 minutes. The plug-in hybrid version boasts a comprehensive range exceeding 2000km, paired with luxury cockpit configurations to target the high-end family car market. NIO ES9 will hold a technology launch event on April 9 and hit the market at the end of May, priced at 500,000 to 550,000 yuan. It carries the self-developed 5nm intelligent driving chip and Tianxing Intelligent Chassis, supporting 600kW ultra-fast charging and battery swap technology, positioning itself as a tech-oriented executive flagship pure electric SUV. IM LS8 is scheduled to launch on April 16 with a pre-sale price range of 259,800 to 309,800 yuan. With configurations such as the Lizard Digital Chassis and rear-wheel steering, it brings advanced intelligent driving to the 250,000-yuan market segment, securing over 10,000 pre-orders within 45 minutes. In addition, models including XPeng MONA M03, BYD Seal 06 GT/DM-i Wagon, and Zeekr 8X have recently been launched or opened for pre-sales, covering the market from 100,000-yuan family cars to 500,000-yuan luxury vehicles to meet diverse consumer demands.
Policies stimulating automotive consumption continue to take effect, while local industrial and infrastructure support is constantly improved. The national vehicle replacement program has progressed smoothly, with 1.526 million subsidy applications received as of April 5, directly driving new car sales of 246.8 billion yuan. At the local level, Qingdao issued a plan to stabilize the growth of the automotive industry, setting a target of 1 million vehicle production and sales in 2026, and promoting 57 key automotive projects each with an investment of over 100 million yuan, with a total investment exceeding 30 billion yuan. Sichuan plans to build 2.05 million charging facilities by the end of 2027 to guarantee the usage demand of new energy vehicles. In terms of industry regulations, the mandatory opening of maintenance resources for the three-electric system (battery, motor, electronic control) of new energy vehicles took effect in April, breaking the maintenance monopoly. Meanwhile, the reduction of export tax rebates for batteries forces industrial technological upgrading.
Auto China 2026 is counting down and has become a focal point of the global automotive industry. With the theme of "Leading the Era, Intelligent Future", the auto show will be held from April 24 to May 3 in a dual-venue exhibition mode, covering a total area of 380,000 square meters. It gathers more than 2,000 exhibitors and is expected to attract over 900,000 visitors. During the exhibition, there will be over 100 world premieres and more than 160 brand launch events. Tech automakers such as Huawei and Xiaomi will make concentrated appearances, alongside an intelligent driving experience zone and a dedicated new energy vehicle pavilion. More than 50 industry forums will be held to focus on the core development directions of electrification, intelligence, and connectivity.
Automakers' sales rebounded overall in the first quarter, with technological layout and corporate strategies continuously advancing. BYD sold 300,200 vehicles in March, ranking first among domestic automakers. Geely achieved a record-high quarterly sales volume of 709,000 units in the first quarter, with exports exceeding 80,000 units in March. Sales of new power automakers including Li Auto, Leapmotor, NIO, and XPeng all rebounded across the board. Volvo sold 153,300 vehicles globally in the first quarter, with electric models accounting for 47.3% of total sales. Technologically, BYD is set to release its intelligent driving strategy, planning to bring map-free advanced NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) to models in the 150,000-yuan segment. Tesla has discontinued the Model S/X to streamline its product lineup and focus on the research and development of volume models and new platforms. Changan established an intelligent robotics company and obtained a test license for Level 4 autonomous Robotaxis. Leapmotor is negotiating with Stellantis on overseas manufacturing to accelerate the export of Chinese automotive technologies. In terms of industry updates, Great Wall Motors Chairman Wei Jianjun met with PD Eastman Founder Yu Donglai to discuss automotive safety design logic. Toyota launched a large-scale recall due to potential component defects, sounding the alarm for industrial quality control.
The global automotive market is simultaneously transforming towards new energy, with the electrification of commercial vehicles emerging as a new trend. The Mercedes-Benz eActros 400 electric heavy-duty truck opened orders in Europe on April 6, foraying into the new energy commercial vehicle market. The Canadian Truck Show will be held from April 16 to 18, focusing on electric and hydrogen-powered logistics vehicles to boost the new energy transition of North American commercial vehicles.
Overall, with new energy and intelligence as the core mainline, China's auto market in April 2026 features abundant new vehicle supply, supportive consumption policies, and empowerment from industry exhibitions. Coupled with the accelerated global layout of automakers, the automotive industry is developing steadily towards high-quality, intelligent, and internationalized growth.
